In the process of assessing the potential for watershed restoration, the method which is used to calculate the weights of indicators can have a significant impact on the evaluation results. In order to explore the application scenarios of different weight calculation methods, comparative evaluation method is used and four commonly used weight methods are contrasted in this article: Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), Entropy Weight Method (EWM), Critic method and Factor analysis method. A case study of a watershed was conducted, primary indexes are selected from three aspects: ecology, pressure and societytogether with twelve secondary indexes are selected comprehensive comparative evaluation. The results show that Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a weight determination method that is always used commonly.Although the method is used with high accuracy, this method also leans on the experience and subjective judgements which made by the experts. In Addition, without full use of objective data,This method can not deal with the change of data well.Entropy Weight Method (EWM) is a method that can avoid subjectivity, however the method has high requirements on data, which makes it suitable for the cases where the independence of the indicator is strong meanwhile there is a large amount of data. The Critic method is a way which is applicable to the situation where there is a certain relation between evaluation indicators and high data quality. Dimension reduction process using of data is a feature of Factor Analysis, which suits the case of serious homogenization of data and excessively selected evaluation indicators. Also used for the simplification of evaluation indexes in order to Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP).To sum up,there are different methods which are suitable for different situations. In practical applications,it is necessary to choose the appropriate method to determine the index weight according to the specific situation,so as to guarantee the evaluation results are accurate and reliable.
