Oral: PDFAbstractUrban water system is important resources of landscape and, as well, an important space to host urban public life in cities. The harnessing of urban water system, while meeting the essential needs of urban disaster prevention and mitigation, water ecological treatment, etc., can also harmoniously integrate landscape construction with water system harnessing projects to achieve diversified development of urban water system, by taking advantage of diverse waterfront landscape facilities and building waterfront public space with both cultural features and artistic aesthetics. This research will focus on landscape technological techniques to enhance the safety, ecological and cultural nature of public space of urban water system. Firstly, water safety is the primary challenge to be addressed in harnessing water system. River dredging and desilting work will enhance flooding control capacity of water system. Proper setting-up of water retaining and storage facilities for rivers will further guarantee their safety during flood; meanwhile, water retaining facilities such as hydraulic dams, gravity dams, arch dams, etc., can form a large-scale water surface, which constitutes important resources for creation of water landscape in urban rivers. Secondly, water ecology is the key content of water system harnessing. Both projects of pollution interception and pipe arrangement that controls pollution from the sources, or plant repair, aeration facilities and microbial facilities of urban water system itself, are crucial to clear urban water system, to which due attention should be given in harnessing water system. Furthermore, in harnessing urban water system, the clients' demand is the fundamental content. In line with key factors such as the nature of the surrounding land, residents or visitors, community scale, etc., effective space response strategy should be drafted to integrate water system harnessing with urban functional upgrading to designs a more inclusive waterfront public space. Finally, the profound study of local culture is a part to be highlighted in harnessing urban water system. Careful study of local culture to discover and highlight valuable characteristic cultural symbols, combining with the implantation of the context and boost of cultural symbols in the construction of waterfront space can create a fascinating and unique new urban water system.In summary, urban water system is an important link connecting multiple interfaces of urban development. Through the above technical methods, the multiple demands of water safety, water ecology, urban spatial function upgrading and cultural heritage is achievable, which can provide extensive meaningful models in urban water harnessing.
