Abstract

(a) Purpose or objectives and status of study or research hypothesis
Pumping is perhaps the most aggressive anthropic action on underground ecosystems (with more devastating effects on the ecosystem than the impact of natural changes)

(b) Key issue(s) or problem(s) addressed

  • Each aquifer responds in a different way that must be known to better understand its behavior (signs / warnings)
  • To analyze resilience it is absolutely necessary to have rigorous and well-established long-term observations
  • Indicators of change in aquifers

(c) Methodology or approach used
The analysis of resilience in aquifers needs to define from what to what. In the present work this analysis is from abstractions to groundwater ecosystems based on long-term data series.

(d) Results and conclusions derived from the project
The work questions the sustainable management of aquifers and raises a necessary research perspective for a more efficient knowledge of aquifer systems that guarantees their sustainable management.

(e) Implications of the project relevant to selected conference theme, theory and/or practice

  • Sustainable management of groundwater resources
  • Improvements in groundwater planning
  • A better understanding of the implications of water security
