Abstract

(a) Purpose or objectives and status of study or research hypothesis
Large sedimentary basins often host large detrital aquifers whose resilience to various impacts is, a priori, large.

(b) Key issue(s) or problem(s) addressed
The stability of the chemical composition of the groundwater used in spas is at risk in the face of impacts such as the exploitation of groundwater in the environment of these establishments, since it is not guaranteed by its protection perimeter.

(c) Methodology or approach used
A case study based on long term data observations.

(d) Results and conclusions derived from the project
The quantitative condition can lead to a significant qualitative condition.

(e) Implications of the project relevant to selected conference theme, theory and/or practice

  • SPAs used be characterized by the stability of the groundwater chemistry composition
  • The impacts on the aquifers does not guarantee the conditions to keep the groundwater composition without changes
  • An example based on an Spanish case study and consequences derived from groundwater Intensive pumpings
