Abstract

Abstract:

This project aims to assess and quantify the contribution of gully erosion to the siltation in the river of Cruzes. The importance of this proposal is to generate data of the volume of eroded soil that contributed to the siltation. The study was conducted through theoretical research, data collection in the study area and through computer simulation. To quantify the silted volume inside the river the comparison of these two data allows a quantification of the volume of collapsed soil from the gully into the river of Cruzes in previous years of the survey. Based on Digital Elevation Models (DEM), was calculated the volume of 32.30 hm3 of silt in the river of Cruzes, 15 years after the dam construction. Therefore, the sedimentation rate was 2.46% per year, which exceeds the national and international averages. So far, one third of the length of the gully, was surveyed with topography, demonstrating the high potential for siltation caused by such erosion.
