Resumo:
Tendo em vista a importância da irrigação no contexto alimentar, o Brasil ter um alto potencial de expansão, além de uma disponibilidade hídrica diferenciada dos demais países, procurou-se realizar uma abordagem sobre a agricultura irrigada no Brasil, considerando a área irrigada em âmbito regional e estadual, com base no censo agropecuário 2006. O Brasil apresenta atualmente uma área de 4,45 milhões de hectares cultivados com irrigação, sendo a região Sudeste a maior irrigante seguidas pelas regiões Sul, Nordeste, Centro-oeste e Norte. O método de irrigação mais utilizado em ordem decrescente é o de aspersão (S/PIVO), seguido pela inundação, pivô-central, outros, localizada e sulco.

Abstract:
Considering the importance of irrigation in food context, the importance of Brazil has a high potential for expansion, and a water availability differentiated from the other countries, we tried to make an approach to irrigated agriculture in Brazil, considering regional and state area irrigated, this is based on 2006 agricultural census. Brazil has currently an area of 4.45 million hectares under irrigation, being the Southeast's largest irrigating followed by the South, Northeast, Midwest and North. The most widely used method of irrigation in decreasing order is the sprinkler (/PIVOT), followed by the flood, center pivot, other, localized and furrow.
