On September 12, China Special Session of the XVIII World Water Resources Congress (hereinafter as "Congress") was held in Beijing. The theme of the session is "Chinese Water Practices and Global Water Governance". The event featured prominent figures such as Li Guoying, Minister of Water Resources, P.R. China, Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia, and Loïc Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, who delivered speeches.

The session was co-chaired by Wang Daoxi, Vice Minister of Water Resources, P.R. China, and Siddharth Chatterjee, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China. Delegates of relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Water Resources, P.R. China, Yellow River Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources, P.R. China, China Three Gorges Corporation, and representatives of governments of the Netherlands, Uruguay, Turkey, Hungary, and other countries made keynote reports. Additionally, representatives from international organizations and research institutions participated in panel discussions.

Following the keynote speeches, participants engaged in profound discussions and exchanges covering topics such as China's water governance principles, practices, and experiences, the global challenges facing water governance, and the initiatives put forth by Minister Li Guoying during the United Nations 2023 Water Conference.

The objective of the China Special Session was to facilitate the exchange of experiences and practices among countries dealing with common challenges and achieving sustainable utilization of water resource. It aimed to harness global knowledge and efforts to address issues concerning water disasters, water resources, water ecology, and the environment. Ultimately, the goal was to advance the achievement of the water-related goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development within the designated timeframe.
