SPECIAL SESSIONS

(closed on Oct. 15, 2010 for new proposals)

The Congress will be organized in four modules per day: two modules in the morning separated by a coffee break, and two modules in the afternoon separated by a coffee break. The overall schedule will be decided by the Local Organizing Committee, and will comprise two types of sessions:

  • Plenary sessions, to which all the Congress participants are invited
  • Parallel sessions, in which several events are open to participants at the same time with different presentations taking place.

The plenary sessions of the Congress include the opening and closing ceremonies, and thematic plenaries with keynote speakers (including Ven Te Chow Memorial Lecture), poster overview sessions, and the Annual General Meeting of the IWRA.

All other Congress sessions are parallel sessions. We expect to limit to five the number of parallel sessions at any given time (one per theme, plus one special session). The parallel sessions will be organized within fixed modules, taking into account the number of selected presentations each contains.

A side event comprises a separate program, lasting one or more days, that is associated with the Congress for mutual benefit, e.g., to take advantage of participants who are gathered to attend the Congress. However, side events are held entirely with external sponsorship. The subject of side events should be related to the overall Congress theme of adaptive water management, and may. Formal inclusion of side events in the Congress program will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Special Sessions

A special session comprises one or two modules with a specific title and content, under the responsibility of a particular institution or consortium of institutions. Special sessions require prior approval by the Congress organizers (see below). Special sessions will be fully integrated into the Congress program and will be scheduled by the Congress organizers to avoid overlap or competition with parallel sessions on similar topics. They are open to all registered Congress participants. Participants in special sessions must be fully registered at the Congress. This applies to coordinators, moderators (if different from coordinators), and speakers. The coordinator may invite participants to the special session at his/her own expense, possibly with the support of a specific sponsor. Coordinators of special sessions are responsible for identifying participants they wish to invite, and for covering any associated expenses including Congress registration.

The Congress organizers may suggest to the coordinator(s) that or more regularly submitted presentations be included in the special session if the subject appears to be a close match.
