Abstract

Sub-theme

5. Establishing Sustainable Water Infrastructures

Topic

5-6. Multi-functional utilization of water projects, including hydropower stations

Body

As a renewable and clean energy, hydropower stations have always been the first choice for energy development and construction in terms of replacing the increasingly limited mineral resources. Hydropower stations often have comprehensive utilization functions such as flood control, irrigation, water supply, power generation and shipping. They can not only comprehensively develop and utilize the water resources in the convection region according to local conditions, but also achieve good social and significant economic benefits. Taking the Damei Hydropower Station in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province as an example, based on the construction of the Damei Hydropower Station, this paper focuses on the analysis of the utilization benefits of the three main functions of the Damei Hydropower Station: flood control, irrigation, and consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements. The Damei Hydropower Station, while protecting the safety of the lives and property of the downstream people, greatly promotes the local agricultural production, and undertakes the livelihood security of the immigrants and the poor. The total storage capacity of Damei Hydropower Station is 26.0768 million m3. The main flood control object is Dawan Town, Yingde City, with a protected population of 88031 and an average annual irrigation water volume of about 71 million m ³, Ensure that the irrigation area of the Polo River diversion irrigation area is 47000 mu, involving a population of about 32000 people, and pay resource fees to the local finance every year to consolidate the poverty alleviation work, while undertaking the compensation and assistance work for the reservoir area immigrants, so as to explore the comprehensive utilization benefits of the hydropower station construction in the process of economic and social development, not only promoting the development and utilization of water resources in the basin, but also playing a positive role in the local economic and social development.
