ABSTRACT
This article assesses the community perception of the urban drainage problems and the use of sustainable practices to control stormwater runoff at lot scale. As case studies we used three urban micro-basins in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. These have different realities about the socio-economic and urban drainage problems. Level of significance and standard error of 5%, 825 questionnaires were given to owners of lots. The issues involved: the perception of urban drainage, stormwater runoff control; incentives for sustainable practices. The results suggest that most owners know their properties help to produce the urban drainage problems. However, they don't take actions to reduce impacts because they think it is a governments responsibility. On the other hand, would build the stormwater runoff controls if they received a positive incentive, such as lowering taxes.
