Abstract:
The study assessed the levels of BTEX in the Guajará „s Bay Area (Belém-PA), according to the decree 518 of March 2004 the Ministry of Health which sets forth the standards of drinking water and CONAMA 357 for the classes of waters surface. The constant traffic of vessels and the existence of fuel supply terminals makes the region susceptible to potential contamination by BTEX. Since it is not a traditional oil fields, no studies fufills accordingly. This study evaluated the water quality in the Guajará‟s Bay Guajará, in the region surrounding the port of Belém-Brazil. Five points were chosen, which were extracted from water samples collected from the bay to where we analyzed the following environmental parameters: levels of BTEX, pH, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, total nitrogen, total coliform, fecal coliform and analysis of organic compounds.
