This paper analyzes some aspects of groundwater quality, as concentrations of total dissolved solids and nitrates, for framing and management in river basins. As a case study used the basin of the Santa Maria River, southwest of Rio Grande do Sul State, which has outcrops of the Guarani Aquifer System, an aquifer of great importance in the international scenario. The quality of groundwater has specific spatial variability in the characteristics of the aquifers. In this sense, the framework of groundwater is the legal form in Brazil to establish minimum desired quality parameters for classifying an aquifer. We used the databases available and have been field work. Maps were generated for the basin through interpolation of specific information (wells). From the results realized that, in general, the groundwater basin are of good quality, although showing some variability depending on the geology, hydrogeology and human activities. The analysis of aspects quality are the basis for supervision and management of resources water essential for watershed conservation and sustainable and appropriate use.
