
The International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Ministry of Equipment and Water (MEE) of the Kingdom of Morocco are pleased to announce that the call for papers and special sessions is now open for the XIX World Water Congress on “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation”, to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, 1-5 December 2025.
The XIX World Water Congress will explore innovative solutions and adaptive strategies and approaches for water resources in an increasingly changing world. The Congress will provide a platform for experts, practitioners, researchers, policymakers, civil society, and the private sector to exchange knowledge, showcase groundbreaking research, build partnerships, and co-develop actionable solutions that aim to address the complex challenges of global water governance, security, and sustainability.
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The International Scientific Committee (ISC) welcomes papers for oral presentations and poster presentations at the XIX World Water Congress, which will be presented during the main Congress programme. Experts, academics, policymakers, water professionals, private sector practitioners, and civil society stakeholders from all disciplines and perspectives who wish to share their work and experiences during the event are invited to submit abstracts. Abstracts can only be submitted online through the Oxford Abstracts Platform.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Abstracts should clearly describe the research, analysis, project or investigation in no more than 400 words and must include the following descriptions:
(a) The purpose or thesis of the work.
(b) The key issue(s) or problem(s) addressed.
(c) The methodology or approach used.
(d) The results or conclusions derived from the project.
(e) Relevance to the congress theme.
Abstracts must be prepared in English and cannot include graphs, charts, diagrams, images, abbreviations, references or citations. When submitting your abstract on the submission platform, you will be required to select one of the Congress sub-themes and indicate whether you will deliver an oral or poster presentation.
Presenters of accepted abstracts will have to pay the registration fees to present their work at the Congress. The payment deadline will be communicated to all submitters in due course.
CALL FOR SPECIAL SESSIONS
The International Scientific Committee (ISC) welcomes Special Session proposals from organisations or groups that wish to host a session or workshop that presents their work on subjects related to the theme and/or sub-themes of the XIX World Water Congress. The format of the Special Session can vary from panel discussions to workshops, and innovative formats are welcome.
The Special Sessions are part of the main programme and are open to all Congress attendees. There is no charge to host a Special Session, but all speakers must be registered to attend the congress, and any additional expenses beyond the provision of the room and standard audio-visual equipment must be managed by the session organisers.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
A Special Session is typically 90 minutes long and must be aligned with at least one of the Congress sub-themes.
A Special Session Proposal must be prepared in English, should clearly describe the proposed programme in no more than 700 words and cannot include graphs, charts, diagrams, images, abbreviations, references or citations, but should include:
(a) Title and a short description of the session (and alignment with which Congress sub-theme).
(b) The name of the lead and partner organisation(s).
(c) The session objectives, justifications, and projected outcomes, which must be aligned with the XIX Congress theme.
(d) How the session will be organised and by whom.
(e) A list of presenters who are proposed to speak with their preliminary presentation proposals in the session, indicating those who have already committed.
(f) A description of financial and other resources that could be committed to realising the session.
