Studies have shown that Morocco has the potential to become a regional leader in the development of the green hydrogen sector, capturing up to 4% of the world's demand for green molecules. This led to the implementation of a green hydrogen development strategy in 2021 that aims to create an economic and industrial sector around this green molecule and its derivatives by 2050.
This study investigates how a PV-powered electrolysis system can transform rejected water into green hydrogen, lowering energy costs and CO₂ emissions.
Green hydrogen from PV and reclaimed water is feasible, cost-efficient, and climate-positive. Scaling, optimized storage, and smart-grid integration are recommended.
