ABSTRACT:
Currently, the aluminum is the chemical coagulant most used in Brazil. Use of this coagulant may cause health problems caused by residual aluminum in treated water, also hindering the final disposition of sludge, because aluminum is an element harmful to plants and animals. The use of natural coagulants and inexpensively, can provide mitigation of the problems linked to consumption of unsafe drinking water and sewage wastewater, untreated, into receiving water bodies. The seed extracts of moringa (Moringa oleifera) has been used successfully in the removal of suspended solids in turbid waters, replacing even the aluminum sulfate. The extract also reduces the hardness, alkalinity, pH and dissolved oxygen from the water. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the use of moringa seed extract in flocculation of suspended solids present in wastewater from dairy. We observed an average efficiency of removal of total solids equal to 76,93%. However, there was no difference between averages, according to the Tukey test at 5% probability.
