ABSTRACT
The sustainability in agriculture depends on the integration of several factors, in order to promote the maintenance of natural resources and agricultural productivity. Among these factors, are irrigation practices, although necessary, can generate impacts in watersheds, due to inappropriate use, changing the quality and quantity of water resources. Thus, it is important to consider the water consumption and efficiency of irrigation systems. The Piracicaba, Capivari and Jundiaí - PCJ (SP / MG-Brazil) watersheds consume 7.8 m³ /s of water in agricultural irrigation, using conventional systems, self-propelled, center pivot and drip. The diagnostic of the regions of the PCJ, where there is risk of impact on water resources in terms of irrigation systems has pointed out areas that deserve priority actions of management. This study aimed to identify management alternatives to minimize environmental impacts on water resources, looking for sustainability in agriculture in the region.
KEY-WORDS: Efficiency of irrigation, water consumption in agriculture, water management.
