Abstract

ABSTRACT

The disorderly exploitation of water resources has been gradually adding to the problem of water availability, making essential the need to reduce water pollution and to seek viable alternatives for increasing the supply of water in order to redefine the use of this feature. CONAMA Resolution 357/05 establishes general standards of water quality and determines that it is the environmental agency established as other specific local realities. In of state Paraíba no definition of a specific class or a standard of water quality adequate to the situation of intermittent rivers, which in addition to affecting the actions of management, hinders effective actions to inspect. This study aimed to investigate whether the quality of water used for irrigation of crops on the banks of the middle course of River Bodocongo/PB meets the general parameters required by national legislation and the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) for wastewater use in agriculture. It was concluded that water quality in the middle course of River Bodocongo, according to the parameters, is unsuitable for irrigation during the blink, thus requiring the intervention of local government to regulate this practice, since the locality there are other reservoirs of water available for irrigation.
