Abstract

ABSTRACT

This work was to assess the quality of water stored in tanks cottages in the municipality of Petrolina, Pernambuco, diagnosing their physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics in order to verify compliance with the standards of quality of water intended for human consumption. To get the diagnosis were collections of samples of water in tanks of 15 families, making the analysis of condutivy, turbidity, hardness, chloride, and Escherichia coli. The methods for determining the number of faecal coliform and follow the recommendations of the Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater (APHA, 1995). The results indicate the need for surveillance of transportation and consumption of water for the health protection and care of microbiological standard, as recommended by the gatehouse 518/4, since not attended in its entirety to the norm of drinking as microbiological standards, since in some cases physical and chemical standards.
