Abstract

ABSTRACT

Unplanned urbanization along the river basin Jacarecica in Maceió-AL, causes major environmental impacts. The replacement of vegetated areas in urbanized areas exacerbates these impacts. However, the potential effect of these changes in sediment yield is unknown. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the production of sediment in the river basin Jacarecica into two periods: dry and wet seasons in the year 2010, checking the influence of increasing urbanization. For this, the tool was used hydrological (AGWA2) with the model KINEROS2. The results of sediment yield in the basin showed that the most productive months produced more than 120 t ha-1 month-1, for a total of 131 t, corresponding to an area of 24.5 km2 of the total area of the basin revealing so much of the basin is actually susceptible to erosion. This work shows that the model is viable KINEROS2, and its coupling to the GIS is extremely useful for the identification and analysis of the main production areas in the basin of the river sediments can be thus considered a promising tool for simulation of sediment yield in river basins in northeastern Brazil. It is hoped that this assessment will serve as a basis for the application of mitigating these impacts instruments, aiming at the environmental management of the basin
