ABSTRACT
The modern world is increasingly concerned with the quantity and quality of water remaining on the Earth. Brazil is a country with greater availability of water on the planet, and the lack of territorial planning of communities threatens the quality of water resources by pollution of rivers, especially in urban areas. In order to contribute on the actions to encourage the creation of conservation areas in Itapema/ SC, this paper aims to demonstrate how the quality of river water, represented by the Water Quality Index (AQI), can serve as a pedagogical tool able to demonstrate the need for consolidation of Municipal Conservation Unit in Itapema/SC. Through interpolation of the parameters values analyzed in twelve sampling stations in six rivers in the municipality, by the method of kriggagem in a Geographic Information System, it was possible to prepare a map of the Water Quality Index of Itapema / SC.
