Abstract
This work aims to analyze the evolution of the environmental condition of the watershed of the Catucá River (Pernambuco, Brazil) with reference to indicators of changes in forest cover relating them to the stabilization of hydrological processes. Comparisons of Leaf Area Index (LAI) and temperature (Ts) from Landsat 5 satellite imagery - TM generated at different times, and the collection of accounts by residents of the watershed. The positive development of the environmental condition guides for understanding the role of the Brazilian Army in the conservation of watershed hydrology, contributing to the maintenance of environmental services for water production, and a policy of conservation of environmentally protected areas. It was concluded that there was a natural regeneration of trees, an increase in the range of variation of the mean temperature when comparing the values obtained in the interior areas adjacent to the watershed and indicative of regularizing the flow of the main source of the study area.
