Abstract
Almost 50% of the population in the Brazilian semiarid region lives in rural areas, with severe water scarcity during the dry season. In the context, the use of green- roof is proposed, with benefit for rational water use widely commented on the literature. However, in order to promote different possibilities for using the water from the rainwater harvesting system, it is necessary the evaluation of its quality. In this context, roof platforms were constructed in Caruaru City, in the ´Agreste´of Pernambuco State (Brazil), composed by vegetation, retention layer, drainage layer, waterproof sheet and concrete layer. In the present work, water from two roof platforms, with different vegetation, were analyzed, besides a third conventional roof platform, aiming to investigate the influence of different vegetation cover in the water quality flowing from the system. The following parameters were analyzed: pH, color, turbidity, DO, alkalinity, dissolved solids and microbiological analyzes. The literature has reported the influence of many different vegetation covers in the gree roof, but not investigating typical species related to semiarid regions.
