ABSTRACT
The basin as a planning unit for integrated environmental management is the basis of the new Brazilian model of water management. Thus, preservation of natural resources and their monitoring are fundamental tools for the rational use of water resources in a watershed. The morphometric study is particularly important in environmental sciences, as in Brazil, the density of fluviometric stations is low and most of them are found in large bodies of water, so the morphometric characteristics are important to transfer data from one basin to another monitored qualitatively similar data are lacking or where it is not possible the installation of hydrometric stations. This study aims to determine the morphometric characteristics (area, perimeter, compactness coefficient, rate shaping, drainage density, order number, etc.) of river basins and large butterflies located city of Mangaratiba.
