ABSTRACT
Water resources granting has advanced to a shifting point were basal flow contributions are now considered. In this sense, we have assessed a low-data baseflow separation method to aid on characterizing baseflow´s temporal variation. We developed a baseflow separation method following what was done by the Institute of Hydrology, in a first glance, due to its inaccessibility. Hence, we identified that the single consideration of 5- day moving average criterion was not applicable to large rivers. Adapting the method via the application of daily flow’s median as a maximum baseflow threshold resulted in a great volume approximation as estimated with Q90/Q50 baseflow index. Possibly the brazilian basins’ magnitude is affecting original method’s application. This paper presents only preliminary results and in-depth analysis are on the way.
