ABSTRACT
The Canhoto river is located in northeastern Brazil, which is polluted for many years because of the amount of waste from sewage and solid waste deposited in water. Pollution has been a growing source of problems socio-economic and environmental, preventing the use and consumption of its waters in a healthy way for individuals who inhabit its banks, still being used, since the water deficit that the region faces and the lack of existing environmental education. This river is included in the semi - arid region of Pernambuco state, characterized as the state with higher water deficit in Brazil, which makes the situation even worse, not only for the residents of riverine areas, such as the living of an entire ecosystem, which in turn affects the hydrological cycle and an extremely complex and dynamic environment.
