Abstract :
The water has an invaluable value to the maintenance of life. In the Belém metropolitan region the population’s main source of potable water is in the Utinga’s complex, which is constitute by the lakes Bolonha and Água Preta. This area suffers from the absence of planning for this development, for that, by the years, it has been polluted by wastes from the population who has occupied disorderly this region. This paper seeks to determine the quality of water of the referred lakes to reveal the deterioration that they have suffered. The determination of the water quality will be done by the IQA (Water Quality Index), developed by CETESB (Environmental Company Of São Paulo State), which incorporate 9 (nine) parameters considered relevant to evaluate the water quality. From the determination of this parameters a calculation is done and the result indicates the quality of the water analyzed in categories pre-determined.
