Abstract

ABSTRACT

The groundwater availability and lower cost of this treatment, have contributed to the increase of wells in public water supply systems. In 2010, microbiological testing of water from 20 tubular wells in public water supply in rural zone of Santa Helena - PR showed the presence of total coliform and fecal coliform, respectively, in 65% and 50% of the wells. To that end, was proposed a chlorine feeder for tablets, manufactured with commercial pieces of pvc. The disinfection system (proposed feeder + trichloroisocyanuric acid in tablets) was tested on a contaminated well. The free residual chlorine (CRL) was measured at the outlet of the treatment. The coefficient of variation was 8%, indicating a low variability in the concentration of CRL. Thus, the adoption of chlorine feeder simplified is feasible, keeping the concentration of CRL in water within the standards for drinking water, with low cost and easy to reproduce.
