Abstract

Abstract:

It is observed in recent decades a concern with groundwater due to overexploitation and the dependence of some regions for its public water supply. The management of these resources should promote its protection related to quantity and quality. The vulnerability allows the identification of areas most susceptible to contamination, determined by the physical, chemical and biological means. This paper presents a comparison of two methods for assessing vulnerability in part of the sedimentary basin in the Lower Course of the river Paraíba, Paraíba. The methods used were the Vulnerability Assessment Index (AVI), which uses the thickness of layers of different materials that are situated above the saturated zone and its hydraulic conductivity and GOD method based on the degree of containment, the occurrence of strata coverage and the distance to the groundwater or the ceiling of the confined aquifer.
