Abstract:
Human activities has resulted huge changes in watersheds increasing the incidence dry period and floods, leading to life-threatening and lost of materials for riverside populations. This situation is very common in developing countries, especially in Brazil. Here, we evaluated the spatial heterogeneity of quantitative hydrological regime of the river basin of Paraiba do Meio using a distributed hydrologic model rainfall-runoff applied to large basins (MGB-IPH) in order to contribute for the management of water resources. It was considered the spatial heterogeneity of soil type, use and land cover and meteorological and hydrological data. Model calibration has shown a reasonable correspondence between observed and simulated outflows. This study provided a better understanding of the spatial distribution of the hydrological regime in this basin.
