Abstract

Abstract:

The natural and anthropical changes have caused deep impacts on the hydrological cycle at the Mundaú river, increasing the recurrence of droughts and floods which has caused great losses to riverine cities. The knowledge and understanding of the hydrological system are essential to support decision making and thus mitigate the impacts of these events. The aim of this paper is evaluate the regional heterogeneity of the hydrological system at the Mundaú river basin using a hydrologic-mathematical model, called MGB-IPH. This model considers the special heterogeneity of the land use and land cover and as well as climatehydrological data. The simulated events are calibrated and validated with observed flows, available at five fluviometric stations and thus downsized the uncertainty attached in the model, making it ready to evaluate scenarios of climatical and land-use land-cover changes.
