ABSTRACT
Increasing urbanization along the river basin Jacarecica, located in an urban area of the city of Maceió-AL and with great prospects for growth, is causing many social and environmental problems, including increased sediment yield caused by withdrawal vegetation cover and soil sealing. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the effect of urban areas and urbanization process in the production of sediments in the basin into two periods: rainy and dry. For this field campaigns were carried out over the basin during the months from June to December 2010, where samples were collected and water flow data at four points along the River. The results show that urban areas, or degraded in the process of degradation produces more sediment along the basin, especially in the rainy season.
