Generally natural changes yield human disturbances, thus needs for water resources intensifies, and generation of waste and pollution effects, which certainly can affect ground water with industrial and domestic waste. This process can take place in São João da Barra, wich has been the process of developing large enterprise, the Port of Açu, belonging to EBX. Therefore the aim of this study is to analyze the groundwater quality used widely by the population of 5º and 6º districts of São João da Barra the municipality and identify communities which there are contaminated water. Samples of groundwater were collected from 14 communities in clean bottle and kept inside isothermal box, it was brought to lab LabFoz (Laboratório de Monitoramento das Águas da Foz do Rio Paraíba do Sul) from UPEA/IFF; and to private lab located at Campos dos Goytacazes town. Theses parameters were analised at LabFoz/UPEA/IFF: determination of hidrogen potential – pH and determination of turbity, tests were performed according to standard rules of procedure described in the book Standard Methods for the Examination of Water & Wastewater. At Companhia Águas do Paraíba these parameters were analyzed: determination of iron, manganese term tolerance coliforms and determination of total coliforms. The results were observed according Ordinance 518/2004 of Brazilian Healthy Ministry, and Word Health Organization (WHO). Several samples was not good quality, it indicated that interventions are required to ensure quality of water supplied to the population.
