Abstract:
Environmental issues have become increasingly important to society, due to the accelerated development that creates constant problems of pollution. According CETESB (2004), the leakage of petroleum fuels in the ground lead to contamination of groundwater by toxic compounds, especially the BTEX present in significant amounts in gasoline and diesel. Knowing the requirements is required by environmental agencies, this study aims to evaluate the aromatic hydrocarbons in water from wells near a gas station, located on the highway Augusto Montenegro, in Green Park neighborhood in Bethlehem - PA. We conducted detailed literature about the topic and data collection in local public bodies (Municipal Environment, prosecutors and other) information that generated the level of concentration of BTEX in eight monitoring wells in the area of study in January 2009, compared with the laws in force in the country. Confirming the origin of the environmental impact and therefore, the risks of exposure to the population around the dealer position, because the water is unfit for the various household uses
