One of the main environmental problems of aquatic ecosystems is eutrophication, which causes adverse environmental, economic and health. In semi-arid, water bodies tend to hold this process. One consequence of eutrophication is the blooming of phytoplankton species, especially cyanobacteria, which can release toxins that are considered causes of animal and human poisoning. To minimize these problems in filtration technology Margin (FM) was applied in the public water supply reservoir Mundaú in semi-arid northeast of the city Garanhus-PE. A well was built on the banks of the spring and through a continuous pumping, produces a difference in hydraulic head induced the water to pass through the porous medium to the well. In this passage, water has an attenuation or elimination of their contaminants. The results, though preliminary, suggests a technical efficiency in the elimination and reduction of physical and chemical contaminants and cyanobacteria.
