Abstract:
This study aimed to analyse technical and environmental feasibility of using sewage sludge as a biofertilizer in conventional agriculture, based on the case study which showed the use of sludge from Sewage Treatment Station Belem in Curitiba, on farms located in the municipality of Lapa, the interior of Parana. Also, together with farmers, interviews werw conducted to verify the practical feasibility of this study. It was found that the cleaning system used by the Sewage Treatment Station Belem is efficient, leaving the values of fecal coliform and salmonella, enteroviruses, helminth eggs and heavy metals are below the values permitted by the resolutions and CONAMA 001/07 and SEMA 375/06. In interviews, farmers werw satisfied with the results on their properties, showing that it is technically and environmentally feasible to make use of sewage sludge on farms.
