Abstract

ABSTRACT

In recent decades there has been a significant growth in water demand. The limitation of water availability characterized by geographical and temporal distribution sometimes inadequate to meet the demands is notorious. This article emphasizes the water resources management as a way to distribute the water to sustain and promote economic and social development, conserving the environment. It is expected a regulation of the use of water through the knowledge of the water supply in the watershed and it’s balance face to the demand and the environmental conservation. Considering the temporal and spatial variation of river flows, along with demand, the appropriate estimate of water availability is essential to implant management tools, especially the water concession of use rights. This article discusses possible criteria that allow the optimized allocation of water use in a watershed, according to policies taken by users and management institutions.
