IWRA called for nominations for the following distinguished awards, to be presented at the XVIII World Water Congress in Beijing, September 2023.
IWRA AWARD CATEGORIES
Crystal Drop Award
The Crystal Drop Award is provided to organisations or individuals in recognition of their laudable contributions to the improvement of the world’s water situation. These contributions may be through:
- Groundbreaking research on water issues;
- Practice in water management or governance;
- Knowledge transfer or dissemination; and/or
- Outstanding contributions not covered by the above.
A nomination for the Crystal Drop Award must include:
- Name of the organisation or individual nominated
- Basic information on the candidate, including:
- a short (up to 1000 words) synopsis for an organisation; or
- a curriculum vitae or career/education summary of a person; and
- a description of the most important contributions to be considered for
nomination
- At least two letters of recommendation from persons other than the nominator
Nominees of the Crystal Drop Award are not required to be IWRA members, but they will be encouraged to join IWRA if they are not.
Water Drop Award
The Water Drop award will be presented to a student or early career professional (typically people up to 35 years of age) who has made an innovative contribution to the water sector. These contributions may include, but are not limited to:
- Groundbreaking recent research on water issues;
- Entrepreneurship in the water sector;
- Raising the profile of younger people in the water sector.
A nomination for the Water Drop Award must include:
- Name of the person nominated
- Basic information on the candidate, including:
- a short (up to 1000 words) curriculum vitae or career/education summary;
- a description of the most important contributions to be considered for nomination;
- At least two letters of recommendation from persons other than the nominator
Only members of IWRA are eligible for the Water Drop Award.
Ven Te Chow Memorial Lecture Award
The Ven Te Chow Memorial Lecture provides for an outstanding lecture at the IWRA World Water Congresses in honour of the first president of IWRA. Nominees should be well-known in the water community, and have a demonstrated ability to give outstanding lectures. The awardee will be expected to deliver a lecture at the XVIII World Water Congress in Beijing, in September 2023, that promotes the objectives of IWRA, especially to:
- Lead and influence water policy and governance;
- Develop and publicise tools for assessment, improvement and integrated use of water;
- Advance water resources planning, management, development, technology, research and education at international, regional, and national levels; and
- Generate, synthesise, and disseminate knowledge and information in the area of water and related resources and the environment.
A nomination for the Ven Te Chow Award and Lecture must include:
- Name of the person nominated
- Basic information on the candidate, including:
- a short (up to 1000 words) curriculum vitae or career/education summary;
- a description of the most important contributions to be considered for nomination;
- an indication of the topic(s) for the lecture to be given at the World Water Congress;
- At least two letters of recommendation from persons other than the nominator
Only members of the IWRA are eligible for the Ven Te Chow Award and Lecture.
The Winners will be invited to attend the XVIII World Water Congress in Beijing, China. Travel, accommodation, and registration costs will be covered.
Take note: Both IWRA members and non-members may propose nominations to any of the IWRA Awards. Members of the Awards Committee may not be nominees but can and should make nominations, in which case they should recuse themselves from voting on their own nominees. No person or organisation may be nominated for more than one award.
