The XVth World Water Congress – hosted by the Scottish Government supported by Scottish Water – presents a unique opportunity to associate with the dynamic international research community promoting the sustainable use of water resources across the globe as well as policymakers and the business community. The forum will address one of the major challenges of the 21st century whilst highlighting the attraction of Scotland and the UK as a prime destination for innovation, commerce and leisure.
As the flagship conference of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), the World Water Congress has gained a reputation for presenting ground-breaking research focused on the delivery of practical solutions and has been at the forefront of the worldwide development of water resource management for over 40 years.
In 2015 the World Water Congress will be held in Edinburgh, the first time this prestigious international conference will visit the UK. It will also mark the return of the Congress to Europe after an absence of 7 years.
A particularly dynamic setting for the XVth World Water Congress is assured by Scotland’s position as a world-leader in its commitment to water resource management as a fundamental element of a low-carbon economy with the Scottish Government’s launch of its Hydro Nation initiative in 2012.
The international significance of this gathering was evidenced by 85 countries being represented when the World Water Congress was last held in Europe in 2008 and it is hoped that this diversity of attendance will be exceeded in 2015. The IWRA and Scottish Government’s collaboration with other international agencies seeking international development and progress will also see other influential Congress attendees, including representatives of the OECD and UNESCO.
