IWRA is honoured to have been elected to join the Board of Governors (BoG) for the World Water Council (WWC) at elections held in Marseille on December 1st. IWRA will be represented on the board by Vice President Yuanyuan Li (Governor) and Executive Director Callum Clench (Alternate).
In addition, IWRA’s President Patrick Lavarde has been nominated to become the co-President of the 9th World Water Forum planned to take place in Senegal in 2021.
Over 300 participants gathered in Marseille for the World Water Council’s 8th General Assembly to review current progress, discuss the next triennial strategy and to elect the new BoG. The full list of Governors for the new WWC Board can be seen here, and the new WWC President is Loïc Fauchon. IWRA wishes to publicly thank all WWC Members who voted for our Association to join the BoG. We will be the only international water association to be represented in the BoG.
IWRA has had a long connection with the WWC. It started at the very beginning when the creation of the WWC was decided at IWRA’s VIII World Water Congress held in Egypt in 1994. This connection continued with the IWRA being represented on many BoGs since then. IWRA has been also the Thematic Champion for Water Quality at the past two World Water Fora, and we have just completed a report on developing an online Compendium Water Quality Guidelines, with the support of the WWC.
We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with the WWC and the Forum process in the years to come. Our next World Water Congress to be held from 11-15 May 2020 in Daegu (South Korea) will be a key milestone on the road to the 9th Forum in Dakar (Senegal).
