Save the Date: IWRA’s XIX World Water Congress to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, from 1 to 5 December 2025

The International Water Resources Association (IWRA), in partnership with the Ministry of Equipment and Water (MEE) of Morocco, is pleased to inform you that the XIX World Water Congress will take place in Marrakech, Morocco, from December 1st to December 5th, 2025.

IWRA wishes to extend its gratitude to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and particularly to Hon. Mr. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, for inviting the Congress again to Morocco. Back in 1991, IWRA’s VII World Water Congress was held in Rabat, Morocco, under the theme “Water for Sustainable Development in the 21st Century”. IWRA is excited, therefore, to return the Congress to this inspiring region to once again address the world’s pressing water issues.

Under the theme “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation, the XIX World Water Congress will explore innovative solutions and adaptive strategies to strengthen water systems and other systems that rely on water in an increasingly interdependent world and in a time of constant change on all levels.

This Congress will provide a platform for experts, practitioners, researchers, policymakers, civil society and private sector to exchange knowledge, showcase groundbreaking research, build partnerships, and co-develop actionable solutions that aim to address the complex challenges of global water governance, security, and sustainability.

The overarching theme of the XIX World Water Congress focuses on addressing the dynamic interconnections between water, natural ecosystems, energy, agriculture and other human activities during climate change. By emphasising the need for innovation in managing water resources, the ability to adapt to shifting environmental and societal demands, and the importance of ensuring resilience in water usage, governance and infrastructure, this Congress will explore how these key elements can be integrated to create sustainable, long-term solutions for water management in an increasingly changing world.

As one of the world’s largest and most prestigious water-focused events, the World Water Congress has brought together policymakers and stakeholders, researchers and experts, and practitioners and the private sector from around the globe since 1973. The Congress serves as a critical platform for sharing cutting-edge research and fostering discussions and partnerships that influence water resource governance from the local to the global scale.

Following the success of the XVIII World Water Congress in Beijing, which bridged key international events like the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York and the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, the XIX edition in Marrakech promises to continue to advance sustainable water management strategies for a better global water future.
