IWRA Celebrates its 48th Anniversary!

This year, 2019, marks the 48th anniversary of the creation of the International Water Resources Association.

Throughout this year, its members and main partners continued to play a central piece of all the Association’s activities and initiatives. Their knowledge, expertise and wisdom adds to the long heritage of publications, events and projects, while creating new opportunities for IWRA to engage in emerging water issues and interests.

Over the past year, IWRA has designed and started to implement a new Strategy and Action Plan, which will lay the foundations for many years to come in order to further engage and collaborate with members, partners and supporters on multiple levels. This strategy refocuses all our activities on our members and meeting their needs. Additionally, IWRA has made good progress in preparation for its XVII World Water Congress which will be held in Daegu, Korea (11-15 May 2020) with hundreds of applications received for regular and special sessions. We have also published eight issues of our popular journal Water International and several IWRA Policy Briefs, including some produced exclusively in collaboration with IWRA members. We have participated and networked in many international water events including the 1st World Summit on Leaving No One Behind, the World Water Week and the Korea International Water Week 2019. We have organised eight IWRA webinars and launched three new member-led task forces on Water Security, Water and Climate Change, and a special one focusing on IWRA’s 50th Anniversary, which is fast approaching. More activities and initiatives can be found at www.iwra.org

Everyone here at the IWRA Executive Office and the Executive Board looks forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with our diverse, unique community of members, as well as finding ways to help our membership to engage better with the broader international water community, in order to better the sustainable use and management of the world’s water resources in years to come!
